Blake Lapthorn runs a series of
'green breakfasts'
Blake Lapthorn is pleased to announce that it
will run a series of breakfast seminars focusing on some of the
most important climate change issues facing businesses today.
As the major sponsor of the Earth from the Air
Exhibition, Blake Lapthorn is keen to contribute to the
Planet Earth Season, which will highlight the county's status as an
international leader in climate change and sustainability
science. So the firm has arrived at the concept of the 'green
breakfast'. The aim of these breakfasts is to encourage
people to come together to discuss the issues surrounding climate
change in a lively and relaxed forum.
The breakfast series kicks off on Wednesday 1
October with a basic and easy-to-understand overview of 'jargon' in
the climate change sector and what it means. The seminars
continue throughout October, November and December – covering such
topics as Carbon Offsetting, Technology, Energy Management and a
Business Case Study - and culminate in an Open Forum session, which
takes place on Wednesday 17 December. At each breakfast there
will be a short presentation by a leading authority on a 'green'
topic followed by the opportunity for questions, debate and
networking.
The green breakfasts start from 7.30 am at
Blake Lapthorn's offices at Seacourt Tower, Oxford, with the
speakers presenting at 8.00 am. The full seminar programme is
listed below:
Wednesday 1 October: Busting
through the jargon: a beginners guide to climate change
A presentation by the Environmental Change
Institute
Are you bamboozled by the amount of
climate-related jargon that appears to have become everyday
language? Here is your chance to understand the meaning behind some
of the most commonly used terms to arm you with the tools you need
to enter into meaningful discussions on this increasingly hot
topic.
Wednesday 8 October: The case for carbon
offsetting
A presentation by Mike Mason, founder of
Climate Care
The practice of carbon offsetting is perhaps
one of the most controversial methods of tackling climate change.
Mike Mason explains not only "what is a carbon off set" but
also explores why he considers off setting to be a key contributor
in reducing the impact of climate change.
Wednesday 22 October:
Tackling climate change through technology
A presentation by Mike Mason, founder of
Biojoule Limited and George King IV, senior portfolio
manager at AllianceBernstein
The climate change challenge presents a great
opportunity for entrepreneurs to develop new technologies to help
in the move to a low carbon economy. Here Mike Mason and George
King look at the role of technology and the possible shape of
future developments.
Wednesday 5 November:
Practical energy management for SMEs
A presentation by Evolve Energy
Limited
Energy management will play a key role in
reducing the emissions from businesses going forward.
However, there is a perception that energy management
requires significant capital expenditure with little return.
Evolve Energy Limited, whose clients include Tesco, The Savoy
Hotel and BNP Paribas, will explain why that perception is wrong
and will provide practical advice on energy management planning and
implementation.
Wednesday 19 November: A
charitable perspective of climate change
A presentation by OXFAM
Climate change is not only an issue for
business but also for many charities and voluntary organisations.
Here, OXFAM gives an insight into how the issue of climate
change has affected its policies and operations.
Wednesday 3 December: Climate
change - a big business case study
A local business gives an insight into how
they have risen to the climate change challenge.
Wednesday 17 December: Open
forum
There is no formal agenda for this breakfast,
which provides you with the festive opportunity to network and
mingle with those interested in the issues surrounding climate
change.
