Blake Lapthorn highly commended at Solent Education Business Partnership Awards

Blake Lapthorn, one of the leading law firms in the UK, is pleased to announce that two solicitors from its Travel Litigation team, Chris Deacon and Lauren Haas, were highly commended at the recent Solent Education Business Partnership (Solent EBP) awards. The awards ceremony took place at the Novotel Hotel in Southampton on Wednesday 11 July 2012.

Chris and Lauren were nominated by Andrea Illsley of Swanmore College of Technology in the category 'Amazing people involved in enterprise challenges & curriculum projects'. The commendation was for the recent mock trial project idea that they pioneered and developed in conjunction with Solent EBP. The mock trial, which was held at Blake Lapthorn's Southampton office in February 2012, was run for students from local sixth forms who played the part of lawyers, witnesses, court staff and interpreters as well as court reporters in a case about the sinking of a cruise ship off the Mediterranean coast. This Award was sponsored by PwC.

Blake Lapthorn also sponsored an Award at the ceremony in the category entitled 'Amazing people who support the development of an enterprise culture' and was awarded to the business entrepreneur who shares his or her knowledge and skills with young people, with the aim of inspiring and encouraging an enterprising culture. Elaine Heywood, a partner from the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution department, presented the Award to winner Chris Hilton of Locutio.

Founded in 2004, Locutio Voice Technologies develops premium branded celebrity GPS voices and works with a variety of licensors and studios. Locutio’s aim is to integrate premium celebrity voice content into cutting-edge digital contexts and applications. Having created the market for in-car GPS celebrity voices, Locutio remains the leading developer of licensed branded voice content in the GPS sector. Chris, who is the CEO & Creative Director of Locutio, has a background that embraces business consultancy, software development and the music business. It is his task to ensure that the commercial viability and creative horizons of Locutio's products continue to develop as the market grows.

Elaine Heywood commented: "As a 'real-life' entrepreneur, Chris takes the time out of his busy schedule to speak to classes or whole year groups about his journey from idea to the creation of his business. Chris is really inspirational and the students are enthralled by his story."

Blake Lapthorn has been working with the Solent Education and Business Partnership on various projects with schools, motivating and encouraging young people to aim higher and reach their potential. This is an important part of the firm's CSR policy and helps to build links with the local community.
