funding cut for Hampshire children's services

Hampshire County Council has cut the grant funding available to voluntary organisations from its children's services department by £330,000. The move comes as part of a wider cost cutting initiative across the department caused by reduced government funding.

The Council will honour its existing financial commitments, but will make no further grants to children's services or payments via the Youth Opportunities Fund for the rest of the financial year. It is however hoped that the impact of the cuts will be minimal, the majority of applications for funding generally arriving in the early part of the financial year and have therefore already been dealt with.

So far in 2010/11, £1.4 million has been allocated by the council to children’s services integrated grants and £254,000 has been allocated through the Youth Opportunities Fund.

Some of the organisations concerned have indicated that the cuts were not unexpected, and it is thought that they will meet with the council to discuss the impact that the cuts will have.
