opportunities for the voluntary sector in NHS shake-up
In a recent speech to Acevo members, the health secretary Andrew
Lansley has said that voluntary organisations will have a key role
to play in the government's plans for changes to the NHS. The
speech highlighted the government's plans to decentralise decision
making within the NHS. This would, he said, give local communities
a chance to have more of a say in how the services were run.
Given that voluntary groups are often at the heart of local
communities, they should expect to become involved, especially as
these groups will often have good ideas as to how such a public
service should operate in order to provide the most benefit to the
community.
