Charities, like other commercial organisations, need to aware of a myriad of legal issues when it comes to publishing content either in hard copy, on-line or via the media. We provide the following specialist services.

  • Plagiarism advice - plagiarism in the UK is not going to go away, though detection rates may improve. If your charity content has been plagiarised in anyway we can provide pragmatic advice on plagiarism issues.
  • Advertising and promotion - we have significant experience in marketing and advertising law, gained through in-house positions. Members of our group have been responsible for the legal review and approval of marketing communications material, including web-based, television campaigns and press releases.
  • Many 'campaigning' charities have a difficult job in managing the tension between getting powerful messages across that make people want to respond and give financially in response to what they see but at the same time stay within the law (eg the message adheres to advertising standards/avoids libel/copyright infringement/privacy issues and other publication risks). We offer charities a half-day legal risk training session that aims to help charities manage this tension.
  • E-publishing and m-publishing - our technology lawyers understand the nuances of structuring e-commerce/m-commerce sales and distribution arrangements, as well as issues surrounding the internet, telecommunications, interactive content and Web 2.0 and digital media.
  • Libel advice - we offer a pre-publication advisory service assessing a proposed publication for libel, contempt and confidentiality, and recommend ways to avoid any difficulties, as well as advising on post publication issues.
