Egan targets to be replaced by Olympics construction commitments

In June this year, Sir John Egan's 1998 targets to modernise the construction industry are set to be overtaken by the higher standards imposed in the 2012 construction commitments in relation to procurement and integration, commitment to people, client leadership, design quality, sustainability and health and safety.

From 11 June, companies will be encouraged to commit to the new standards even where they are not linked to 2012 delivery. Six so-called headline targets will be applied to those companies which choose to sign up to the new construction commitments which include: the achievement of fully trained, qualified and competent workforce work on all projects; 50% of construction projects (by value) being undertaken by integrated teams and supply chains; 60% of all publicly-funded/PFI projects (having a value in excess of £1 million) using design quality indicators; and 20% of all projects (having a value in excess of £1 million) using design quality indicators.
