Health and safety is a very important area for the construction industry, as there are many health and safety issues on a construction site. Our team has a wide of experience of dealing with the problems involved and legislation which apply including:

  • The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007. This has recently changed the responsibility of health and safety on a construction site as it now involves you the client as well as duties for the contractors, sub-contractors and architects.
  • The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations. These Regulations came into force on 6 July 2005 and apply to the following tools:
    • hand-held power tools or machines which transmit vibration into the hand
    • mobile machinery which is driven off road on on rough groun
    • machinery which exposes the user to vibration or shock
    • vehicles which lack suspension systems
  • Corporate Manslaughter Act. This Act focuses on the root cause of the death at work rather than the immediate cause of death. Therefore construction companies can now be prosecuted for systemic failings which taken together can be said to have caused the death in the same way as individual manslaughter
  • HSE campaigns, for example:
    • good order on site
    • working at height
    • falls from vehicles used in construction.
