- Independent
schools fail the public benefit test July
09
The results of the Charity Commission's first public benefit
assessments were published on 14 July 2009. This bulletin outlines
the key points from the assessment and provides a ten point
guide to help governors ensure their school passes the
test.
- Immigration issues:
how to get a license to teach international
students June 09
In these challenging economic times, many independent schools are
looking to international markets to increase their pupil numbers.
Although many schools are aware that in order to teach pupils from
overseas they must obtain a Sponsor Licence under the immigration
rules, our experience is that many schools are not up-to-speed with
how to navigate the application process and are not fully aware of
the obligations place on their school once a licence has been
granted.
- Trustee
Indemnity Insurance Oct 2007
The Charities Act 2006 introduced a
new power enabling charities to purchase indemnity insurance to
protect trustees from personal liability. This means a charity
wishing to purchase Trustee Indemnity Insurance no longer needs
Charity Commission consent or an express power in its governing
document.

an interview with Dame Suzi Leather, chair woman of the Charity
Commission. This information sheet steps back from the
headlines and recaps on the legal position in England and Wales for
schools and speculates on the impact charity status may have on
them.
