Blake Lapthorn provides consumer credit advice to automotive
sector client BVRLA
Blake Lapthorn, one of the leading law firms in the UK, has
assisted the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association
(BVRLA), in helping redraft its Consumer Credit Act (CCA)
guidance.
The Blake Lapthorn team, led by Asset Finance partner Richard
Humphreys, provided the BVRLA with legal advice for its guide to
consumer credit law (The BVRLA Weekly Update), which went
live online at the beginning of December 2011 to all of its 500
members companies.
The BVRLA updated its guide to the CCA to reflect recent changes
to the credit laws. The guide, which was produced in collaboration
with Blake Lapthorn, brings together the key aspects of consumer
credit law as it affects products and services provided by some
BVRLA members, from pre-contract information to contract
termination. The guide also includes issues affecting credit
brokers and intermediaries, assessments of creditworthiness and how
to deal with cancellation from a regulated agreement.
Subsequent data confirmed that in the week after distribution,
the guide had been the most downloaded piece of information from
The BVRLA Weekly Update.
The BVRLA was established in 1967 and is the trade body for
companies engaged in the leasing and rental of cars and commercial
vehicles. Its members provide short-term self-drive rental, leasing
hire and fleet management services to corporate users and
consumers. The sector employs an estimated 46,000 people and
supports a further 200,000 jobs across the automotive industry in
the UK. BVRLA members operate a combined fleet of around 2.5
million cars, vans and trucks, buying nearly half of all new
vehicles sold in the UK. In doing so, they spend in excess of £16
billion each year on vehicles and around a further £4 billion on
support and ancillary services.
