Since the removal of the prohibition on marketing any foreign
lotteries in the UK, the market has potentially opened up to the
development of offshore commercial lotteries that could compete
with the National Lottery. We have been involved in advising
on such developments along with applying for UK licences to operate
society lotteries and for external lottery managers. We
believe that there will be some exciting new business propositions
in the online lottery sector in the near future.
Over the years, our Gambling team has advised on numerous
schemes involving identifying and clarifying the relationship
(previously under the old law and more recently under the Gambling
Act 2005) between lotteries, skill games and prize
competitions and their respective regulation in law.
