Blake Lapthorn's Leisure sector group success for Roar
Betting
The Licensing team at Blake Lapthorn has been successful in
obtaining a Betting Premises Licence in the London Borough of Brent
for its client Roar Betting, despite police objections to the
application.
The police argued that existing betting shops
in the Borough had been subject to a number of robberies and were a
source of drug offences and criminal damage, and the grant of a
licence would lead to the same problems occurring at the new
premises.
However, the licensing committee was impressed
with the policies and procedures adopted by Roar at its existing
nine shops, and were prepared to grant the licence subject to
conditions.
Phil Crier, head of Licensing at Blake
Lapthorn, represented Roar Betting at the hearing and commented:
"This was a very good result for our client, particularly in view
of the fact that Brent committee had previously refused two similar
applications by other operators based on the same police
objections."
