Blake Lapthorn and Southampton City Council enter into
secondment agreement
Blake Lapthorn and Southampton City Council today announced a
partnership arrangement at a critical period in the regeneration of
the city.
With ever decreasing budgets and even tougher times expected to
come, local authorities across the country are having to find more
efficient and better ways of doing things, while continuing to
provide top quality service to residents. One of the ways
Southampton City Council is achieving this is by embracing value
for money partnerships with the private sector.
A senior solicitor from Blake Lapthorn will be seconded to the
council for 12 months, to work on a number of major projects,
including Building Schools for the Future (BSF), which will see the
renovation and rebuild of schools across the city.
Mark Heath, solicitor to the Council, said: “This is a
groundbreaking arrangement between public and private sectors; the
addition of private sector experience and expertise will be a
welcome addition to our team. We expect local government across the
country to be under increasing pressure to reduce resources because
of the financial situation in the public sector, so this
arrangement will help to secure the council's commitment to this
whilst supporting a number of major regeneration projects in the
city in the immediate future."
Mike Kendall, the head of Local
Government at Blake Lapthorn, added: "We regard local
Government as a key sector for the growth of our firm, and are
delighted to assist the council in this way. We hope our technical
expertise can bolster the council's team, and give us some useful
exposure to major regeneration programmes relevant to the public
sector."
