the risk of publishing online

Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) and Associated Newspapershave been sued for breach of French privacy laws.  The Court in France said it has jurisdiction to hear the case because the articles were accessible in France on the internet. Publishers should remember that they will be liable for user-generated content where editorial decisions have been made and can be sued in jurisdictions, other than England, for breaches of privacy or libel, some of which have stricter privacy and libel laws.
