Oxford green breakfast - Oxford - 7 November
2012 - the Westmill Story - the trials and tribulations of trying
to establish the largest community owned solar park in the UK
details
We were pleased to welcome Philip
Wolfe, Chair,
Westmill Solar Co-operative Limited and
Nicola McConville, Partner, Blake Lapthorn to the second in the
Autumn series of green breakfasts.
Westmill Solar Co-operative was formed with the intention of
aquiring the Westmill Solar Park located at Watchfield,
Oxfordshire. It launched a community share offer in the summer
which was oversubscribed and Westmill is currently working with a
finance house to fund the balance of the purchase price needed to
secure this asset for the Community investors. The process has had
its ups, downs, challenges and hurdles, and Westmill believe it
would be beneficial to others to share their experiences.
Philip Wolfe who was the first Chief Executive of BP Solar, was the
Director General of the Renewable Energy Association when it led
the campaign for the introduction of the Feed in Tariff. He is
the author of a book on utility scale solar power projects which is
due to be published by Routledge in October 2012.
