Professional support lawyer

Ruth qualified as a solicitor into the firm’s Employment law team in 2001 after training with the firm. Since 2004 she has worked as the team's Professional Support lawyer which has enabled her to concentrate on the development of the Vigil Risk Management service and writing the Employment team's monthly e-bulletin, employment law news amongst other things. Having set up the Vigil website, she continues to maintain it to keep up with the fast pace of changes in employment law, including drafting its precedent contracts, policies, letters, guidance for managers and monthly legal update bulletins.

Prior to becoming a PSL she gained excellent experience acting for a very wide range of organisations, advising on and drafting compromise agreements, contractual documentation, handbooks and large-scale redundancies. She has pursued and defended many types of employment tribunal claims. Before completing her postgraduate studies in law, she obtained a degree in French and German and she has spent time living and working in both countries. She is also now fluent in Spanish after living in Spain for four years, during which time she was able to carry on her work for the firm remotely.
