issues to consider on termination of employment
details
Blake Lapthorn's employment team held its Thames Valley HR forum
entitled 'issues to consider on termination of employment' at its
Oxford office on 28 September. To view Vicky's slides, please

Dismissal of employees continues to be a key issue for employers
this year and with difficult times still ahead for businesses, it
is perhaps inevitable that this trend will continue.
With the potential for future dismissals in mind, this Thames
Valley HR forum looked at factors outside of the dismissal
process which employers need to bear in mind when terminating any
employee's contract of employment. Vicky
Schollar guided the delegates through the legal and practical
issues, including notice periods (and associated benefits and tax
issues), restrictive covenants and confidential information, garden
leave, and compromise agreements. An awareness of these points can
help to protect the business and prevent time-consuming and
litigious issues arising.
Debbie Sadler followed with an interactive case
study drawing on the main points arising from Vicky's talk.

Following the presentation, delegates had the opportunity to ask
questions and to provide feedback on any issues that they have
faced in the workplace in relation to these specific issues.
The forum is valuable for HR directors and managers and anyone
who deals with employment issues on a daily basis.
