Display Energy Certificates
Following from the introduction of Energy Performance
Certificates, Display Energy Certificates (DECs) have now been
introduced with a view to raising public awareness of energy
use.
From 1 October 2008, any building over 1,000 m2 that
is occupied by a public authority or an institution providing
public services and is frequently visited by the public has to
display a DEC. The responsibility for providing these rests with
the occupier.
In deciding whether an institution provides a public service, it
is necessary to look at whether the service has been provided by
Government (central or local) in the past, whether there is a duty
to provide that service and/or Government fund or plan the
service.
The DEC should be at least A3 in size and be placed in a visible
area such as the reception area. Guidance has been issued setting
out what information they should contain.
