  • Recent amendments to the EU rules governing the marketing of poultrymeat which were introduced as a result of increased consumption of poultrymeat in the form of meat preparations and products came into force on 1 May 2010.
  • The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has recently published their annual report of Food Incidents. These are defined as ‘any event where, based on the information available, there are concerns about actual or suspected threats to the safety or quality of food that could require intervention to protect consumers’ interests’.
  • The FSA has recently written to local authorities with advice on the use of tanks to store live oysters, mussels, clams, cockles and scallops (bivalve molluscs) by shops and restaurants prior to sale. This type of storage preserves the taste, colour, odour and feel of the product.
  • The long running battle between Ajinomoto and Asda over Asda’s use of the word ‘nasty’ in relation to aspartame continues.
