The "domestic worker" immigration category allows overseas employers to bring their domestic workers with them when they visit or move to the UK. Once a domestic worker has been in the UK for five years, they can apply to stay here permanently.

The qualifying criteria to come to the UK as a domestic worker include requirements that they must have been working for at least one year immediately before their application:

  • as a domestic worker in the same house as their employer or
  • in a household that their employer uses on a regular basis, and there is evidence of a connection between them and their employer.

An applicant must also:

  • be aged between 18 and 65
  • intend to travel to the UK with their employer, their employer's spouse or civil partner, or their employer's child who is under 18.

Blake Lapthorn solicitors' Immigration team can assist not only with initial entry clearance visa applications, but also extensions or variations of stay within the UK.
