Blake Lapthorn boosts Insolvency and Business Recovery team with partner hire

Blake Lapthorn is pleased to announce the appointment of Adrian Owen as a partner in its Insolvency and Business Recovery team.

Based in the firm's Southampton office, Adrian will be responsible for assisting the team in further developing its client base and complementing its leading south coast insolvency and business recovery practice by building on the firm's existing capabilities with a particular emphasis upon its work with banks and asset based lenders.

Adrian joins Blake Lapthorn from Lamb Brooks where he was head of the firm's Business Restructuring and Insolvency team. Prior to that, he was the partner responsible for developing the regional insolvency and restructuring practice at Bond Pearce in the South East. In an insolvency career that has spanned almost 20 years since he qualified with what is now City firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Adrian has worked on a range of major insolvency assignments from managing a restructuring project in the Far East to heading up the Treasury Solicitor's Companies and Regulation team responsible for public interest winding up and directors' disqualification.

Adrian passed the JIEB exams in 1996 and retains his insolvency practitioner licence. He is a Fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and a member of the Insolvency Lawyers’ Association. Adrian lectures frequently and is a contributor to Tolley’s Insolvency Law and Lightman & Moss on the Law of Administrators and Receivers of Companies, as well as other specialist publications.

Comments Adrian: "Blake Lapthorn is a leading firm in many different areas of law and I am delighted to be joining its Insolvency and Business Recovery team as it looks to expand this area of its business. The team has been involved in some of the largest and most interesting cases and I very much look forward to helping the team progress further."

Blake Lapthorn's core Insolvency and Business Recovery team comprises five partners and 16 full-time business recovery lawyers, based in the firm's offices in London, Southampton and Oxford. The team is one of the largest of its kind in the country, bringing together solicitors skilled in all aspects of insolvency, restructuring and business recovery work. Blake Lapthorn was one of only two firms to be rated in the top tier for restructuring and insolvency in the South in Chambers UK, A Client's Guide to the Legal Profession 2010, described as having "top-flight expertise" and demonstrating a "consistently excellent profile". In the same publication, appreciative clients are reported as saying that Adrian "is very quick to respond and always produces top-quality work."

Nick Oliver, partner at Blake Lapthorn and head of the Insolvency and Business Recovery team, said: "Adrian brings with him a wealth of specialist expertise. His appointment reflects the team's ambitions for growth in Southampton, where he will work alongside regional team leader Mike Pavitt. His appointment is also part of the firm's strategy for developing the corporate recovery and advisory offering to the firm's asset based lending and banking clients."

Adrian joins Blake Lapthorn on Tuesday 1 December 2009.
