renowned mediator and adjudicator David Miles joins BL
Resolve
David Miles, a successful and highly
experienced mediator and a member of PIM Senior Mediators has
joined BL Resolve. He is part of CEDR's and MATA's
mediation training faculty and he has also taught mediation in
Africa and the Caribbean. David is a Fellow of the Chartered
Institute of Arbitration for both arbitration and mediation. He is
joint author of The ADR Practice Guide. David is also a
qualified adjudicator which broadens BL Resolve's ability to
provide resolution solutions.

The judiciary have long emphasised the importance of training
lawyers at an early stage in mediation. Most recently Lord
Neuberger, Master of the Rolls said "if we are to make mediation
second nature, if it is to be litigation’s twin, then we need to
embed that culture from the very beginning of a lawyer’s training"
[1]. BL Resolve mediator, David
Evans, has been putting this into practice this month by
working with Cardiff Law School to provide training on meditation,
including role plays, to LPC and BVC students.
legal updates
CMC updates guidance for mediators on Proceeds of Crime
reporting obligations
The Civil Mediation Council has published an updated guidance
note to mediators on their obligations under
the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. In most circumstances mediators
do not have an absolute duty to report any suspicions however they
must take care if the mediation is not connected to any existing or
contemplated proceedings or where the settlement agreement does not
reflect the legal or practical merits of the parties' positions and
the mediator suspects it is a cover.
