Family mediation is an inclusive process which provides a real
alternative, on family breakdown, to negotiations through
solicitors or resolving issues though the courts. We can act
as family mediators in cases where we are not representing you.
Family mediation recognises that when relationships break down,
emotions can run high, and talking face-to-face can seem like the
hardest thing to do. This is where mediation can help.
Mediation is a private, impartial, solution-focused process in
which couples meet to resolve issues, without the need for recourse
to solicitors or the court.
Mediators are trained to help couples reach agreements, preserve
relationships and make the best, most practical arrangements for
the future.
After a free introductory meeting, BL Resolve’s family mediators
can help families decide whether mediation suits their situation.
After the first meeting if you decide that mediation is not for you
there is no obligation to continue. If the parties proceed to
mediation and an agreement is reached, the mediator will draft the
agreement into a formal document that will then be reviewed with
independent legal advisors. Even if agreement cannot be reached,
the mediator will draw up a schedule of issues, which will identify
areas of agreement and disagreement, so as to isolate the issues
and keep further costs down to a minimum.
Each mediation session will last between one and a half and two
hours. The first introductory meeting is much shorter and usually
lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. The cost of the
mediation is £195 plus VAT per hour and is shared between the
parties.
