Privy Council judicial appointments

Lord Neuberger has been appointed the President of the Supreme Court and will take up his appointment (replacing Lord Phillips) on 1 October.  Lord Neuberger who was a House of Lords Judge and sat on Privy Council Appeals, therefore moves to the Supreme Court for the first time.  At the time the Supreme Court was created, he was famously quoted as describing it being created "as a result of what appears to have been a last minute decision over a glass of whisky".

With effect from 1 October, Lord Dyson is to be the Master of the Rolls.  Lord Dyson was the first Justice to be appointed to the Supreme Court after its formation joining the then existing Lords from the House of Lords.  His sharp intellect in Privy Council cases will be missed.
