On 22 October 2008, The Times reported that Trevor Mann, the former chairman of the British Dental Association (BDA), was struck off for fraudulently claiming £51,000 in expenses from his organisation.

The General Dental Council was told that Mr Mann had wrongly claimed expenses for meetings over a nine-month period. Mr Mann, a non-practising dentist, claimed he worked at a surgery earning £42,748 a year. The investigation found no such practice.
