£4 million award to boy who suffered brain
damage at birth

A £4 million award was agreed in June 2005 at the High Court for
six-year old Liam Quinton by Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare
NHS Trust.
Liam, who lives with his family in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire,
was born at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester in
1999. However, the way his birth was managed led to his brain
being temporarily deprived of enough oxygen (hypoxia). As a
consequence of this, he now has severe cerebral palsy and other
disabilities.
The NHS Trust admitted liability and a £4 million settlement was
agreed at the High Court to finance the specialist care which he
requires.
His parents said after the settlement was announced: "We hope
that this money will go some way to enabling our son to have a good
quality of life and to achieve his full potential."
Alison McClure, head of law firm Blake Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons'
Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team, represented Liam
throughout the case.
"We are pleased that the settlement has now been agreed and that
Liam and his family do not have to worry about funding his care in
the future," Alison said.
