bladder injury

Inadvertent bladder injury is
frequently listed as a risk or complication of surgical procedures,
particularly gynaecological and abdominal surgery. Here at
Blake Lapthorn as clinical negligence solicitors, we most
frequently encounter injuries to the bladder which have occurred
during gynaecological surgery. However, just because
this is listed as a potential risk of the surgery itself does not
necessarily mean no clinical negligence claim can be brought.
If the bladder injury was caused by negligent surgical technique or
poor post-operative management then the treating doctor or hospital
body may be held liable for your injuries and the losses flowing
from that.
We appreciate that the psychological effect of
a bladder injury, particularly where this results in a degree of
urinary incontinence or the need for self-catheterisation, can be
quite severe to the individual affected and can impact quite
heavily on our client’s ability to partake in every day life.
Their bladder injury can interfere with employment, social
activities, family life and personal relationships and there are
additional complications such as infections that can periodically
make the situation much worse for the client.
The Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn
have extensive experience in dealing with clients who have been
affected by bladder injuries and are able to take an overall view
of the situation calling on assistance not only from medical
experts but also from care experts, counsellors and pain
specialists. We also have experts who are happy to advise on
whether there may be any available treatments or management
strategies that may improve our client’s symptoms.
We realise that bladder injury can be a very
sensitive issue for our clients and are aware that often a bladder
injury is accompanied by other physical, psychological and
emotional injuries which will also need addressing.
If we are able to secure an admission of
liability at any stage, we may be able to obtain an interim payment
on your behalf to ease the financial burden and provide for any
recommended treatment while your claim is concluded.
