eye surgery

The nature of these cases is that they are
very often serious and distressing, causing significant
disability.
Ophthalmic surgery is a very specialised and
technical area within the medical disciplines. Whilst
patients may submit a formal complaint about their treatment to the
NHS or seek disclosure of their own medical records, interpretation
of the issues without support can be very difficult.
Examples of ophthalmic cases within our
experience would include:
- optic nerve damage because of raised intra-cranial
pressure
- blindness because of failure correctly to treat diabetes
- inappropriate cataract surgery techniques
- inappropriate squint surgery
- defective laser eye treatment surgery and/or inappropriate
clinical advice and patient selection for the surgery
Blindness is a devastating injury and we aim
to work closely with our clients and their carers. We are
able to draw upon a variety of expert sources as well as our
in-house expertise to deal with these cases and support our clients
and their carers through the litigation.
If the case is pursued we claim compensation
for the pain and suffering and loss of amenity associated with the
loss of vision, and financial losses including the requirements for
care, specialist aids and equipment, further treatment, appropriate
accommodation and for loss of earnings.
We appreciate the severity of the distress that these types of
injuries cause and we aim to treat our clients with empathy and a
practical approach.
