gall bladder surgery

Surgery for removal of gallstones or the gall bladder itself is relatively common surgery and is usually successful in relieving the painful symptoms of cholecystitis.  For an unfortunate few, however, there can be complications during the surgery damaging the gall bladder or bile duct, and leaving the patient requiring further surgery or possibly with long term symptoms.  Damage to the gall bladder and bile duct can also occur during other abdominal surgery and investigations, particularly those involving the liver.

The Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn have access to independent expertise in this area.  Medical experts can examine your medical records in detail to determine whether your gall bladder injury was caused by negligent surgical technique and, if appropriate, to prepare reports in support of your compensation claim for negligence.  We have successfully pursued several cases in this field with assistance from eminent medical professionals.

Sadly, the impact of gall bladder or bile duct damage on a client can be quiet significant.  Whilst permanent disability is rare, a few clients face additional major surgery, ongoing debilitating infections, possible liver damage and ultimately the potential need for a liver transplant.  We are sufficiently experienced and well resourced to appreciate the wide ranging effect of such an injury on a client’s lifestyle and to ensure that all these factors are taken into account when quantifying your claim and in the right circumstances, negotiating settlement on your behalf.

If having received a supportive medical report we are able to secure an admission of liability from the defendant surgeon or hospital body, then we are very happy to try to obtain an interim payment of damages on your behalf to erase any immediate financial burdens and to cover the cost of any additional recommended treatment whilst our investigations are completed and your claim is concluded.
