plastic surgery

Medical accidents concerning plastic
surgery frequently lead to severe distress for patients.
Plastic surgery issues may arise either because of failed surgical
treatment or in the context of repairing injuries caused by other
types of medical accident.
Clients will have sought medical advice
because of concerns over aspects of their appearance. It is
then particularly devastating when instead of obtaining the
improvement they had hoped for patients instead find themselves in
an even worse position suffering pain, distress and
disfigurement. Quite often when plastic surgery operations go
wrong then this will lead to the need for multiple complex
corrective procedures to try and rectify the situation as far as
possible. Very often however the outcome is still disappointing for
the patient after much further treatment.
Consent issues are of importance in
these cases. Patients need to understand very clearly the
results they should expect and what are the known complications.
However, even though complications are known to occur, it cannot be
assumed that they are within the range of those which are
acceptable until the case is investigated carefully. Examples
of surgery that can go wrong are:
- ear surgery. Damage to the
cartilage of the ears can be very difficult to repair
- breast reduction surgery. This
can go wrong with devastating psychological consequences
- defective breast augmentation
- face lifts
Often clients will be very distressed
by what has happened. Careful assessment of psychological
injuries may be needed. We have the expertise with regard to
the technical aspects but also have the understanding and skills to
advise clients who very understandably may be extremely distressed
by what has happened.
