testicular torsion

Testicular torsion is an acutely painful,
sudden onset condition, which should be recognised by virtually all
medical professionals as a potential surgical emergency. If
surgery is undertaken in a timely fashion, it is usually possible
to save the affected testis. Delay in treatment, however, can
all too easily mean that by the time surgery takes place the testis
has become necrotic and the patient requires an orchidectomy
(removal of testicle). Unfortunately, failure to diagnose the
symptoms of testicular torsion as a surgical emergency appears to
occur more frequently than would be expected.
Because of the nature of the condition, clients
often find it difficult to talk about what has happened to
them. However, we appreciate that this is a very personal
injury which can have quite a traumatic psychological effect on the
individual, affecting their confidence and sometimes their
relationships. Often clients are hoping to be able to undergo
surgery to have a prosthetic testis inserted to achieve a more
acceptable cosmetic result, but because of their recent experiences
would prefer to undergo private surgery.
The Clinical Negligence team at Blake Lapthorn
have considerable experience with testicular torsion claims and are
experienced in dealing with the sensitive issues involved for the
client. We are often able to give a good indication of the
prospects of your claim being successful after reviewing your
medical records. If we are able to secure an early admission
of liability, it may be possible to obtain an interim payment for
private prosthetic surgery to take place.
