cancellation of travel arrangements due to bad
weather

Most travel insurance policies cover you for specified risks as
detailed under the cancellation section of your policy so there may
not be any cover if you decide to cancel the trip due to the
weather conditions.
The exception to this is if the plane or boat you are booked to
travel in is delayed in excess of a specified time (usually 12
hours) you may abandon the trip and claim the cost of the unused
holiday. This section is only generally valid if the plane or boat
is delayed and not the insured person.
However most policies do provide cover if you are delayed in
reaching the airport due to the severe weather conditions and miss
your departure flight. This cover is generally provided under the
missed departure section of the policy and the amount of cover will
vary but generally covers the cost of getting you to your
destination.
The purchase of comprehensive travel insurance is important at
all times when travelling and the above is for guidance only and we
would recommend you check with your individual insurers to
establish exactly what is and is not covered.
