road traffic accident in the USA
We recently recovered damages of
$100,000 for a pedestrian who had an accident abroad as he was hit
by a car and knocked over in California. This was the maximum
amount that could be claimed under the insurance policy. Daniel Scognamiglio, head of the Travel

€130,000 compensation following tragic death in road
traffic accident in Spain
We recently acted for a family following the tragic death of one
of their sons in a road traffic accident in Spain. For a number of
reasons the claim for damages was brought in Spain. We were
able to recover damages in excess of €130,000.
€500,000 compensation after moped accident in
Greece
Following a moped accident in Greece, Blake Lapthorn
solicitors acted for the client who, on appeal, was awarded
€500,000 (the limit under the policy) by the Greek court, despite

ship
We successfully represented a number of
passengers were struck down by a norovirus outbreak whilst on
a luxury Mediterranean cruise in May 2010. Passengers on board the
Grand Princess were quarantined and confined to their cabins,
missing large portions of their cruise as the illness took hold and
affected more passengers.

We have acted further to a number of helicopter crashes in the
USA. In one such case a client suffered injuries and we were able

fly and during one lesson was taken up by an inebriated flight
instructor. Unable to control the flight, the helicopter landed
with some force, throwing the student out - we were able to

A young boy had an accident on holiday in the swimming pool
shower - we successfully recovered damages for the personal injury
and scarring. We were also able to recover money for both parents
for loss of enjoyment from their holiday due to the accident.

We recovered a significant sum for a client who was hit by an
errant and speeding snowboarder while skiing in the French Alps.
This sort of case can often lead to a disappointing amount of
damages if the French level of damages is used. However, we were
able to pursue the claim in England and recover the higher English
damages, including loss of holiday, damages for scarring and for
the cost of future treatment.

food poisoning abroad in Lanzarote
Three families caught food poisoning whilst staying at a hotel
in Lanzarote - we were able to recover between £800 and £2,000 for
the varying degrees of severity for the members of each family.

Our Travel team was instructed to investigate the claims of
food poisoning at a Tunisian hotel, raising concern as the holiday
season gets under way. Guests travelling with First Choice stayed
at the Abou Sofiane Hotel, Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia in May 2010
where they were stuck with severe symptoms of vomiting and
diarrhoea. Further investigations are ongoing but it is thought
that there may be other holidaymakers who will have suffered
similar illness at the same time.

Greece. We acted for a Claimant who fell when a step broke away
from underneath her. The accident happened in the pool area of the
hotel in Greece.
