If you have a defect on your car, then you could receive the following penalties:

Defective brakes 100% of weekly take home pay Three or possible disqualification £2,500
Steering defective 100% of weekly take home pay Three or possible disqualification £2,500
Exhaust defective 50% of weekly take home pay N/A £1,000
Tyres defective 100% of weekly take home pay Three or possible disqualification £2,500
Lights defective 50% of weekly take home pay N/A £1,000
Condition of vehicle/danger of injury 100% of weekly take home pay Three or possible disqualification £2,500

 

Fines are for a driver only however if the driver is also the owner there is a risk that the fine will be increased by 25%. If a company is convicted of an offence fines will be uplifted by 50%.

If you use your car incorrectly, then you could receive the following penalties:

Distribution load - danger 100% of weekly take home pay Three or possible disqualification £2,500
Insecure load - no danger 50% of weekly take home pay N/A £1,000 - £2,500 if goods vehicle

For the above offences, the fine will increase if there is evidence that the owner was responsible for the overload for commercial gain.
