If you are caught in charge of vehicle with excess alcohol, the court will either impose ten penalty points or disqualify you from driving.  The court will also fine you, impose a community order to custodial sentence.  The maximum sentence is a £5,000 fine or six months in prison.

 

You could receive the following penalties:

Fine: 100% of weekly take home pay

Ten points

60 – 89

138 – 206

184 - 274

Fine: 100% of weekly take home pay

Ten points or disqualification

90 - 119

275 - 366

100% of weekly take home pay to medium community penalty

Disqualification up to six months or ten points

120+    

276 - 345+

367 - 459

Medium community penalty - six weeks custody

Disqualification – six to 12 months
