The court can either endorse with penalty points (five to ten) or disqualify for up to 12 months. The court will also fine you, impose a community penalty or impose a custodial sentence. The maximum fine is £5,000 fine and/or six months imprisonment.

You could receive the following penalties:

Nature of offence Sentence Penalty points/disqualification
Minor damage Fine: 100% of weekly take home pay and five to six points
Moderate damage Fine: 150% of weekly take home pay and seven - eight points and possible disqualification
Serious damage and/or evidence of bad driving High level community order to 26 weeks custody Disqualification of six to 12 months or nine to ten points
