If you have been caught with no insurance the court will fine you and impose either penalty points or a period of disqualification.  If it does not disqualify you the court will impose six to eight penalty points. You could receive the following penalties:

  • starting point for fine: 150% of weekly take home pay
  • maximum fine: £5,000 fine
  • penalty points: court has a discretion to disqualify (up to 12 months) – the court must impose six to eight penalty points if no disqualification
