policeman convicted of careless driving last week

A policeman was convicted of two counts of careless driving last
week after he was photographed by a speed camera with both hands
off the steering wheel and giving a thumbs-up to the speed camera.
PC David Mayes repeated the actions just over an hour later on a
second emergency call in Sheffield in the early hours of 26 July
2007. The officer was driving at speeds of 68mph and 73mph in a 40
mph limit. The court disqualified him from driving for six months
and fined him £400. His actions were criticised by road safety
organisations and his own constabulary, who are now expected to
commence disciplinary proceedings against him.
