An officer from South Yorkshire police has been banned from driving after he was convicted of driving without due care and attention. David Mayes was photographed by a speed camera with his hands off the wheel and, in one instance, making a thumbs up sign at the camera whilst answering two separate emergency calls in Sheffield.

Halifax Magistrates' Court disqualified him from driving for six months and fined him £400 after he pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place in the early hours of the morning on 26 July 2007.
