road traffic accident results in loss of independence - case
study

Our client, an elderly lady, was walking home one day and went
to cross the road behind a stationary car. The car suddenly
reversed and knocked her over. She sustained a broken shoulder and
severe bruising as well as cuts and scratches.
As a result of the injuries, our client had to stay in hospital
for two weeks for physiotherapy. She was then transferred to a
community hospital for further rehabilitation, but as a result of
losing her confidence, her rehabilitation was slow and she
eventually had to enter a care home. She suffered a continual pain
in her right shoulder and will always now have some permanent
disability in her arm, as well as not being able to grip with her
right hand.
outcome: Our client settled out of court for
£38,000. This was a high settlement for such injuries due to the
age of our client and the likelihood of age-related
complications.
